Most academic environments and employment structures have shown devastating discrimination against the trans community, especially for trans women of color. Some of us in the trans community have been able to gain employment, only to find even more staggering discrimination when faced with living as their affirming gender or transitioning while in the workplace.
Studies show that trans people are four times more likely to have an income of less than $10,000, while 55% lost their jobs. TransTech’s work not only supports the most marginalized but seeks to break this cycle and create scalable, sustainable solutions for those who need them the most. TransTech’s mission needs your help.
TransTech Social Enterprises and the TransTech Summit are responses that put the transgender and gender non-conforming community in a position to lift themselves out of poverty and become role models for those dealing with similar struggles. TransTech programming is open to the entire LGBTQIA community but focuses on those experiencing the greatest impact of discrimination.
The TransTech model is to empower, educate, and employ by providing members access to technology while supporting them as they build a portfolio of professional projects that strengthens their networks and resumes. TransTech currently serves an international collective of over 2,600 members. Every dollar goes toward educating, training, and employing the most marginalized members of our community. The TransTech Summit provides attendees with tools to bolster their existing careers, interact with new media technology, network with other LGBTQIA people, learn new skills, and access additional training tools.
Capacity Building
TransTech is truly a passion of the community. We are a majority volunteer-run organization. Our volunteers are the heart and soul of TransTech.
Data Analyzation
As one of the only organizations that center BIPOC transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people we have the data to show the needs and the untapped skills of our communities need to truly have a gender-expansive workforce.
Community Support
TransTech offers all resources to our community free of charge. We offer support through contests with monetary prizes and gifts. We holistically support our community by providing those who reach out to partner with presentations and conversations on how to honor the intersectional identities all individuals hold to truly have a gender-expansive workforce.
Operational Support
Since 2014, we have been a grassroots organization, doing what we can with what resources we have. Since the pandemic we have seen an increase in membership, further solidifying that our community is looking for us. As we build out our organizational team, we want to be sure we can provide equitable opportunities to do this life-changing work for growing membership. As of June 2023, we have over 5,000 members worldwide.
